Overwhelmed: Hope and Help for the Financially Weary,
published in 2013, is a collaborative book written by nine Christian women.  In Section 1, they share how God met them in the midst of their individual unemployment seasons, grew their faith through the trials, and provided for their needs in personal ways.  In Section 2, they share practical financial resources, such as an income tax withholding calculator, a free credit report website, child support information, food stamp details, and tips for dealing with credit card debt.  Sections 3 & 4 contain resources for women in business and a home business guide, including how to make money blogging and writing eBooks.  Section 5 contains recipes for food and household cleansers, and suggestions for how save money on gifts and clothing in times of financial difficulty, plus a lot more.

The testimonies are very personal and relatable, and especially relevant to the difficulties faced by women in today’s economic depression.  My heart was greatly encouraged to read that two of the ladies had gone through circumstances similar to my own and in the ninth testimony June shares short stories from other women about their amazing moments of perfect provision.  These were very heartfelt and powerful reminders of the “Manna Moments,” as I like to call them, when God provides exactly what we need when we need it and it usually comes from an unexpected source.  I myself have had several Manna Moments and remind myself of them and the Lord’s faithfulness when I’m facing a particular trial.

I felt like the resources in Section 2 were helpful and practical for the women who might need them, but they also seemed like they could easily be found outside of the book.  I was a little disappointed by this as I was hoping for some tools and tips that were a little bit more “fresh” or less well-known, but maybe that’s just me.

If you are struggling to find hope and peace in the midst of a season of financial uncertainty and want to be encouraged by other women who have experienced the same fears and losses that you have, this is the book for you!

  1. Thank you so much for your honest review Rachel! I know I speak for all of the Overwhelmed team of authors when I say we greatly appreciate you for taking the time to read our book and share your thoughts here. It’s so good to hear you were greatly encouraged by a few of the testimonies in particular. If we’ve encouraged or blessed you (and other readers) in some way through the writing of this book than we’ve accomplished what we set out to do. 🙂
